"Conservatives Learn to Live With McCain": Is This Really a Surprise?

On Friday, David Paul Kuhn wrote the article entitled, "Conservatives Learn to Live With McCain". The article, posted on "Politico.com", talks about recent support McCain is receiving from the more conservative Republicans. He says, "Conservatives have already found something to like about John McCain: they think he can win in November." Is this really a suprise? The Republican Party is obviously concerned about McCain's chances against a Democratic Party boasting two very strong competitors. John McCain is a Republican, but he is a moderate Republican. The reality is, that the Conservatives are so concerned with the prospect of handing the top office over to the Democrats, that they have finally realized that they need to band together behind one candidate.

Conservatives understand that McCain is their only hope. I believe that these Republicans would have been much more supportive had Romney been the GOP candidate, but I don't think Romney had a chance.

Kuhn quotes former Governor Frank Keating, who said, "The public who wants change is comfortable with John McCain, whom they view as someone who is not a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bush administration."

Unfortunately, I think that the Republican Party will be in for a rude awakening come November if they can't get all of the conservatives on board. It shows weakness, and this is something the Republican party cannot afford, especially after having to answer for eight years of the Bush Administration.

Rep. Mike Pence, a very right wing member of the house said, "What are Conservatives Supposed to do now?"

I think Mike Pence should realize that, whether he approves of it or not, the majority of the population wants some sort of change from the Bush Administration. If the Republicans are to have any chance come November, they better realize that they need to adapt.
