Senator Clinton has stayed up way past her bedtime

Last Thursday in Boonville, IN, former President Bill Clinton attempted to promote his wife and addressed the incident when Senator Hillary Clinton “misspoke” regarding her arrival under sniper fire in Bosnia in 1995. He made excuses for her, explaining that she had been speaking late at night (around 11 PM), was exhausted, and had apologized for her mistake immediately after. Unfortunately, these excuses did not alleviate the situation because of a number of mistakes in his argument and some unintended inferences.

-Senator Clinton’s trip to Bosnia was in 1996, not 1995.
-She did not make the sniper fire claim just once at 11 PM, but a number of times, and had exaggerated the story each time.
-She did not immediately apologize for it and only acknowledged the mistake once the video of her not-so-dangerous arrival was released.

It’s unfortunate as well that Senator Clinton misspoke at 11 PM, especially since she promises to be alert and ready for duty at any time- specifically at 3 AM, which is only 4 hours later.

Well, Senator Clinton. With all due respect, I believe you’ve stayed awake past your bedtime. Please get some rest and drop out of the race! You’ll thank me in the long run.

Why can't the rest of the country figure this out? While I respect every citizen's right to their own opinion, I just don't understand how people hear stories like this and continue to give her free passes? Anyone???

I don't think that she gets a free pass.. Do I think these fallacies are an issue? Definitely, but I also call it reality. Presidential candidates stretch the truth all the time, and unfortunately, we often give politicians free passes.

We speak in class all the time about different lies and blunders from each nominee and how the press shows them. Several months ago, when the tides first turned in Obama's direction, Clinton was bashed and criticized for every move she made. All of the candidates have received criticism, and all have received free passes. Whether we agree with this or not, it is reality.

If you think that there has been no "spin," "slant," or "exaggeration" in Obama's campaign (or anyone else's for that matter), please drop out of this class and take a 100-level class in basic political rhetoric.

"SHE DIDN'T APOLOGIZE GOOD ENOUGH!" This is nit picking. Sit down.

Obama has been given many, many more free passes (plagiarism, anti-American ideologies), but that's not being considered here. That's probably because people with a cult-like mentality find it a lot easier to completely dismiss all negative allegations brought against their leader than examine them objectively/remember they ever happened.

I'm not really sure what you all mean by saying that she was given a free pass. The issue got press, she had to respond, and then it was over. What do you want to have happened? Forcible withdrawal from the election? Crucifixion? Exaggeration or not, this "instance" doesn't make her less fit of a presidential candidate by any realistically noteworthy degree.

First of all, I did not mention Senator Clinton receiving a “free pass” on this issue, nor did I say she was the only one to have escaped bad press. Just because I focused on a specific gaffe of the Clintons does not mean the other candidates have not also made similar mistakes. For example, see my other post regarding Senator Obama and the “bitter” people of Pennsylvania.
Also, campaign gaffes such as this can help the public realize whether candidates are fit for the position they are seeking. Unfortunately for Senator Clinton, this specific incident seemed to mark the end of her fight. Not only did her own husband undermine her promise to be active and ready for anything at any time of the day, but she also handled the original situation badly, probably due to an incompetent communications director. Regardless of what mistakes Senator Obama might make in her favor in the next few months, Senator Clinton cannot win because she is not a choice candidate to run the greatest nation in the world.

Thanks for clearing that up with all those hard facts.
